Dear St. Didacus Parents,
Many thanks to students, teachers, and parents who have been making Catholic Schools Week so outstanding! On Sunday we had quite a few potential new parents and children checking out our school. I want to extend my deep gratitude to St. Didacus Marketing Team for all of their help. Mrs. Veronica Atwater is the Team leader. The other members Mrs. Marlene Molina, Mrs. Conchita Joaquin and Mr. David Peraza have been visiting preschools and preparing marketing materials. Our new marketing materials have been designed by Mr. Peraza, a Pre-K parent. Thank you Marketing Team for all of your hard work promoting our school.
This week is full of fun activities promoting the focus of Catholic Schools Week - “Faith Academics and Service”. Monday the students wore gloves and carried trash bags to help clean Sylmar Park. Students had a tough time finding any trash. Everyone was very surprised how clean the park was. Thank you to the many parents who volunteered to chaperone our students to the park.
Cindy Chavez, mother of 5th grader Nikolas Chavez, has arranged for a visiting South African native to come and talk to the 5th Graders about their International Day country – South Africa. Please check the flyer that was in last week’s envelope for the other wonderful activities happening this week – Chalk Art, Academic Quiz, School Family Lunch, Kickball, and our awesome International Day.
Friday is the Seventh Grade First Friday Mass. Seventh Grade parents are invited to join us at Mass followed by refreshments in the Hall. Friday also ends our Catholic Schools Week with an all-school performance and luncheon to celebrate International Day with the students performing at 10:30 am. Don’t forget that school ends at 1:00 pm. Afternoon day care is available for families who need it.
Last Friday four of our Junior High students were recognized for their outstanding patriotic essays at the Sylmar VFW Post. The winners are: Casey Fonseca, 6th grader won 1st in Post, Andrew Garza, 7th grader, won 2nd in Post, Richard Hoffman won 3rd in Post and 2nd in District, Elias Gutierrez, 6th grader, won 4th in Post and 3rd in District. Congratulations to our students!
Next Tuesday the PAB will meet in the 6th grade classroom at 6:30 pm. All parents are invited to attend the meeting. One of the topics will be Casino Night. We have a dedicated Casino Night Committee who will need help from parents. Come and offer your help in one of the sub committees.
St. Didacus School will have our General Parent Meeting next Thursday, February 9th at 7:00 pm in the Parish Hall. Please join school families for the 50 Cent-a-Dip dinner before the meeting starting at 6:00 pm. The meeting will have many important topics that will be discussed, including registration, tuition and distribution of Second Quarter Report Cards and Mega tickets. This is a MANDATORY meeting. Casino Night tickets are going to be sold at the meeting. Each family is required to purchase one ticket. The price is $30.00 for one ticket and $50.00 for two tickets. Please bring your checkbook to purchase your tickets.
PLEASE observe the drop off procedures. Safety of all of our children is extremely important! School cars are often exiting by turning onto Astoria Street instead of driving straight and exiting on Glenoaks Blvd. This is causing a terrible traffic jam and it is UNSAFE! Please go over the drop off procedures in the Parent Handbook and inform the adult who may bring your child to school for you.
God bless all of you and your family,
Dr. Joan Shoff
