In order to run for office, each candidate must attend a brief meeting that explains the procedures and qualifications necessary to participate in the election process. Only those students meeting the requirements in academics and citizenship are eligible to run for office. Each candidate must have the final approval of the Principal prior to entering the election. Eligible candidates campaign for one week. At the conclusion of election week, each candidate for office must give a brief speech to the student body, explaining why they feel they are the most qualified candidate for the office they are seeking. The election is then held with students in grades four through seven being permitted to vote. Ballots are counted by two current members of the Student Council and their moderator, or a faculty representative; the results are then announced to the student body. An Inauguration Ceremony is held at the first Mass of the new school year.
See the Parent/Student Handbook for more information.
