“I Give Thanks to You, O Lord.” Psalm 138:1
“Share your hope in the Lord. Pledge to Together in Mission.”
These times challenge us on many levels. Disquieting news comes at us from so many fronts
and attempts to take away our sense of security and peace. Yet, generous donors continue to
support the undertaking of Together in Mission. Its continued and solid success stands out as a
reason to rejoice.
Together in Mission asks us to trust, but also gives us reason to trust. In Together in Mission, we have marvelous evidence of the power of our shared faith. We have seen the amazing, peaceful power of unity at work in the support given to our Catholic schools and parishes. Recently, many more people are concerned about the condition of their finances. Anxiety grows with the poor who must depend on the generosity of others.
Our faith calls us to convene as the People of God willing to make a sacrifice on behalf of others in dire need. In Scripture, God assures us again and again that when we give, we receive; that as we sow, so shall we reap. I ask you to give. I ask you to sow. I ask you to make a contribution – any contribution – to Together in Mission.
As we continue this amazing appeal that has wrapped so many in its grace, I give thanks to the Lord for you.
May Almighty God continue to bless you and your loved ones.
If you received your pledge form in the mail, please complete it, mail it back or bring it to Mass. We will conduct our annual Together in Mission in-pew pledge process at all Masses on February 6, 7, 13, & 14, 2010.
What is the Together in Mission Campaign?
Together in Mission is a unique fund raising campaign. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles is the only Archdiocese in the United States that dedicates its entire Annual Appeal to assist parishes and schools that cannot survive economically without outside financial support. The people of all of our 291 parishes including those that are subsidized, are asked, once a year, to make a significant financial commitment to this important cause.
Why Should We Give to the Together in Mission Campaign?
The Annual appeal, Together in Mission, provides an opportunity to share our financial gifts in order to help provide Catholic education, ministry and services to the parishes and schools that are assisted by the campaign.
Another reason to support this campaign is born of the fact that we are not a congregational church. All parishioners should hear and understand this fact. Every time that we say the Creed we reaffirm the fact that we are members of the “one, holy, Catholic and apostolic Church”. We are saying that every parish and every parishioner is responsible not only for his or her parish but also for the well being of the Church throughout the Archdiocese and throughout the world. Since we are one community of believers, members of all parish communities throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, including those that are receiving subsidies, are asked to give to Together in Mission 2010.
How are parish goal determined?
Individual parish goals are set at 10% of each parish’s reported yearly Offertory income for the previous fiscal year. St. Didacus’ Together in Mission goal is $67,024.92
Are Parish Goals Mandatory?
After the success of the emphasis put on the in-pew process in the 1998 campaign, all parishes that do not succeed in reaching their goal, in cash paid, are asked to provide a check for the difference to fulfill their obligation to “Together in Mission”.
What happens when a parish exceeds its goal?
Once the amount of the payments received from the parishioners in a given parish exceeds its goal, 100% of the excess will be returned as a rebate. Parishes pay no Archdiocesan assessment on Together in Mission rebates.
